ZIFTESSA offers a variety of courses differing in length and level under the following categories:

  • Documentation and Research Facilities

 

A. Full time diploma programme: Foundation Courses

 

The courses offered underline that film making is an undertaking which requires knowledge and expertise pertaining to culture, creative use of technology and familiarity with the business aspects of the profession. Accordingly the bulk of the following foundation courses are offered during the first semester and are meant to form an intellectual framework for the acquisition of skills, knowledge and for the promotion of screen products. All foundation courses are compulsory.

B. Full time Diploma Programme: Core Courses

Currently students may choose from seven areas of study. These are:

C. Part time Short courses 

The professional short course programme provides a variety of short training courses, workshops and seminars organised over a few evenings, weekends or weeks aimed at upgrading or refreshing professional skills and acquiring new competencies. Short courses will be tailor made for the film sector professionals in need of refresher courses for purposes of individual growth, for institutions such as Colleges, Universities etc.

 

 

D. Regional Short Course Programme

ZIFTESSA will offer professional short courses regionally in collaboration with other training institutions and particulary in SADC and Africa in general.

 

E. Guest Speaker Programme

National, regional and international guest speakers will be invited to the film school for seminars, workshops, conferences, lectures etc so as to expose students to a broad range of personalities either from the film and television field or personalities representing wider social issues and concerns. The Guest Speaker programme is scheduled every Wednesday 2-4pm.

 

F. Screening Programme

Films from Africa, the Third World, and from the rest of the world are screened regularly through the year followed by discussions by students and invited members from the film sector and general public.

 

G. Documentation and Research Centre for African Cinema

This centre is being designed to house a library, film tapes, books, journals, CD’s, manuscripts, magazines etc. All these facilities are meant to make accessible knowledge about cinema on the African continent and to generate and inspire research projects on the state of cinema industry in Africa and abroad.
